Original antique copper-plate engraved map from the April 1740 issue of The London Magazine and Monthly Chronologer.

• It is titled "A Plan of the Havanah" and shows the city and harbor of Havana, Cuba.



• The image area measures 17.7 x 10.2 cm [7" x 4"], and details include Morro Castle, Fort St. Maria, the Mole, village of Guanabacoa, Island de Mugeres, and harbor defenses, with a half-dozen sailing ships just offshore.



• Condition:  The map is in very good condition, bright and clean, with no marks, rips, or tears. It is uncolored, as issued, and there is letterpress text on the reverse side. Please see the scans and feel free to ask any questions.



• The map was published shortly after the start of the War of Jenkins' Ear, a conflict between Great Britain and Spain which ran from 1739 to 1748.



• Most of the fighting took place in New Granada and the Caribbean Sea, including the British invasion of Cuba in 1741, when a combined army and naval force under the command of Admiral Edward Vernon and Major-General Thomas Wentworth landed near Guantanamo Bay, at the far eastern end of the island.



• The invasion was not successful, and British forces withdrew by the end of the year.
