Description

This is a truly beautiful Japanese design featuring chrysanthemums, Japan's national flower, rendered in a lacquered style on a spherical form.

Red against white, consciously evoking the national flag.

Produced for export during the 1960s Japan boom, this radio is extremely rare, with most units flowing overseas and virtually none remaining domestically. A radio that doesn't look like a radio makes superb interior décor.

Indeed, I initially mistook it for a beautiful vase.

This unit features an 8-transistor specification, not a vacuum tube design.

This spherical Showa retro radio is a fascinating piece, perfectly suited for discussing the differences between vacuum tube and transistor designs.

For transistor radio collectors, this is an item you should definitely consider adding to your collection.

Uses four D-size dry cell batteries. Works well. Battery holder shows no leakage.

To think this is a 60-year-old Showa retro radio...

No cracks or chips to the main body.

Very few minor scratches or signs of fading visible. Retains its lustre and is a remarkably fine specimen.

Internal wiring reinforced and serviced.

Diameter: 182mm. Height: 203mm.

With a diameter of 18cm, it has a substantial presence.
