This beautiful silver FLIGHT DENTIST Wing Badge, PROBABLY authorized in the very early 1949/1950 is a style original to the WWII period specifically the United States Air Force (after 1947 when the US Army Air Corps became the US Air Force). This unique and valuable collectible belongs to the Militaria theme and was manufactured in the United States but regrettably we do not know who the manufacturer was. It serves as a symbol of honor and recognition for the brave medical personnel. who provided medical care to soldiers during this tumultuous period in history. I’ve looked and looked for information regarding any thing relating to authorization of the dentists wing; but, I have not been able to find any reference relating to this wing’s creation. It’s probably, like so often occurs in war time, something arising from someone’s creativity. These unofficial or unauthorized badges in all war time eras have stirred patriotism and nationalism-not to mention the “Gung-Hoism” among the troops. These unauthorized and creative and often times homemade insignia flourished in Vietnam. This particular insignia, however, is not homemade! It is commercially made, which signifies to me at least, that there was sufficient interest, and perhaps political push to request a batch of wings be created.

If there is anyone among you who has specific information regarding the authorization/attempted authorization of this flight dentist’s wing, please provide me a reference. Thank you in advance.
