The 1974 Topps Deckle Edge consists of 72 cards, each measuring 2-7/8” by 5”. As the name implies, each piece has a scalloped, “deckle” border with a black-and-white player photo and facsimile signature. Backs feature the card number and a faux “newspaper-clipping” design detailing a milestone in the player’s career. Card backs are either white or gray, with the white backs slightly tougher to obtain. This set is anchored by Bob Gibson (#3), Steve Carlton (#5), Jim Hunter (#6), Thurman Munson (#7), Tom Seaver (#9), Don Sutton (#12), Pete Rose (#16), Lou Brock (#20), Brooks Robinson (#25), Willie McCovey (#28), Willie Stargell (#31), Rod Carew (#32), Nolan Ryan (#41), Carl Yastrzemski (#43), Jim Palmer (#45), Hank Aaron (#57), Fergie Jenkins (#59), Reggie Jackson (#61), Carlton Fisk (#64), Frank Robinson (#66), and Johnny Bench (#71). This was a test set issued in limited quantities throughout Massachusetts, and uncut sheets are sometimes found.
