This is one of several listings I have that include original works of art by John Reardon. I can combine shipping if you win more than one lot. I wasn’t able to find out much about him, except that he passed in 2011 at the age of 84. Some of the works feature SUNY Cortland former athlete and Manhasset High School basketball coach Fritz Mueller. I purchased these works at an estate sale which was probably that of Fritz Mueller. They are both in the SUNY Cortland C-Club Hall of Fame. Reardon’s brief page on their website says, “The Physical Education-Recreation Center on the Cortland campus has been artistically enhanced with a series of three-dimensional paper reliefs which adorn the walls of the building’s main conference room.” Reardon was class of ’50 and Mueller was class of ’47.

Each work of art is done on paper with a combination of pen, permanent marker, watercolor, and possibly gouache as well. Most were then cut out and glued to a thicker artist board or thin poster board. Most are signed and dated 88 or 89 on the board. Over the years the glue has stained the art, with various amounts on each piece. Some of the drawings are starting to come off the board due to the glue drying.

This lot includes three pieces featuring Fritz Mueller playing for SUNY Cortland. The left piece (8" x 10.25") is done on paper with marker, pen, and gouache, and not cut-out. It has multiple stains and a rip and bend near the bottom. The middle piece (8.5” x 11.5) was cut-out, but never glued to a board. The punchline was taped across the art. The last name has ripped off, and the head ripped off and was taped on the back side. The third one (7.5” x 10.75”) was done on a sheet of paper and then cut-out and glued to a slightly thicker paper. It was done with marker, pen, watecolor and gouache.
