Rollin’s Ancient History – Volumes I & II (1863)
Blackie & Son, Glasgow, Edinburgh & London
A handsome two-volume set of The Ancient History of the Egyptians, Carthaginians, Assyrians, Babylonians, Medes and Persians, Grecians and Macedonians by Charles Rollin. Published in 1863 by Blackie & Son, these volumes are richly bound with gilt-embellished leather spines, deep red title panels, and marbled edges. Each volume is illustrated with finely engraved maps and plates, including fold-outs, and accompanied by detailed historical, geographical, and critical notes, plus a biography of the author by James Bell.
These books are both beautiful and intellectually substantial – ideal for a library, study or tasteful display. Some foxing present, consistent with age, and minor wear to the bindings, but overall in solid antique condition.
