Permanently limited to 15,000 sets world-wide.

Of the many thousands of stamps issued annually throughout the world, the colorful stamps honoring great aircraft are among the most fascinating and widely collected. For they tell the story of one of man's greatest achievements: the mastery of flight.
Yet there has never been a comprehensive international collection of stamps on this compelling theme.
Until now.

For now, the Fédération Aéronautique Internationale, the oldest and most renowned aeronautical organization in the world, has set out to create the first such collection. An unprecedented and definitive philatelic tribute to the great aircraft that shaped the history of flight.
This historic collection will bring together fifty different mint-fresh specimens of the most significant aviation stamps of our time. It will include both important new stamps and historic new out-of-issue stamps — many of them all but impossible to obtain in mint condition from any source whatsoever.

THE STAMPS WILL COME FROM NATIONS ON EVERY CONTINENT.
From the United States, Great Britain and the Soviet Union. From France, Australia, Brazil and Hungary. From Zaire, Chad and the Congo. From nations large and small... near and far... in every part of the world. But though they represent many different lands, all of these stamps will have one thing in common: they honor all or part of the great aircraft of history.

Among the specific machines to be commemorated are the ingenious flying machines of aviation’s infancy: Otto Lilienthal’s man-made wings... the Langley Aerodrome #5... Louis Blériot’s monoplane; the romantic planes of World War I: The Spads flown by the legendary Lafayette Escadrille... Britain’s Sopwith Camels... the feared Fokker D.VII of Baron Richthofen’s Richthofen’s Red air squadron; the most famous World War II fighters and commercial planes, from the Douglas M2 mailplane to the Boeing 747 Jumbo Jet; and the aircraft of space age, from Robert Goddard’s first liquid-propellant rocket to Sputnik and Apollo XI.

AN ORIGINAL SCHEMATIC DRAWING WILL ACCOMPANY EACH STAMP.
These specially-prepared drawings will literally take you inside each aircraft to show every detail of its structure and design. To assure the utmost accuracy, each will be based upon the most authoritative reference sources available. In many instances, this means the original plans and blueprints of the aircraft being portrayed. And where such documents no longer exist, experienced researchers will use historical accounts, manuscripts and other contemporary source materials.

The result in each instance will be a totally unique and authentic portrayal of one of the world’s great aircraft. A work of painstaking accuracy and detail created expressly and exclusively for this collection.

EVERY STAMP WILL BE IN PERFECT MINT CONDITION.
The collection will include flawless mint-quality specimens of both important new stamps and others that are out of issue. Among them will be special commemoratives and other stamps that are frequently issued in small quantities in remote parts of the world.

To preserve their perfection, each stamp will be set within a protective transparent pocket, where it may be displayed and examined without risk of damage—and without ever being removed from its protective covering.

AN AUTHORITATIVE COMMENTARY WILL BE PART OF EACH ISSUE.
These fascinating and highly informative commentaries will be prepared especially for this collection. Each will discuss the development of the aircraft being honored and its role in the history of aviation.

In addition to the schematic commentary, which is also affording easy access to each issue, a distinctive Collector’s Portfolio will be provided to each subscriber. Designed to look like a handsomely bound book, this portfolio will be equally impressive when displayed in a bookcase or on a desk or tabletop.

THE COLLECTION WILL BE PERMANENTLY LIMITED TO 15,000 SETS WORLD-WIDE, a modest number for a stamp collection of international distinction. Subscription applications, therefore, will be accepted on a first-come, first-served basis until the subscription rolls will be closed for all time once the limit of 15,000 is reached.
