History


GAGGIA was founded in 1948 by Giovanni Achille Gaggia, a Milanese barista born in 1895 who dedicated all his energy to improving the quality of the coffee produced in the bar he managed.

He was responsible for the intuition of eliminating steam from the coffee production process, through the use of a spring which, combined with a lever piston, guarantees sufficient pressure to push the water through the coffee for a fairly short time. to allow the extraction of a strong coffee.

It is 1947 and with this invention Achille Gaggia determines the beginning of the worldwide success of espresso coffee and its machines.

Alongside the production of bar machines, Gaggia immediately launched a model for domestic use on the market: the Gilda (1952) with lever and closed boiler and, to follow, the Gilda '54 (1954), with two arms and open boiler . 


Description


Famous “Gilda '54” model coffee machine produced by Gaggia of Milan.

The two diametrically opposite levers can be folded when the machine is not in use.

By lowering the telescopic levers, the piston is raised and the cylinder is loaded with boiling water.

By slowly releasing the levers, a powerful spring applies strong pressure to the piston which pushes the hot water through the coffee powder contained in the filter holder, pouring the coffee into the cup.
