Handwritten Estate Document and Clipping, Virginia City, MT, 1875
10 x 8-inch document with 2.5 x 2-inch clipping adhered to bottom, adding miniscule height
A few tiny, penciled notations, a bit of toning to top edge and light creasing. Very Good.
A handwritten declaration signed by “Thomas Deyarmon, publisher of The Madisonian, a weekly newspaper published at Virginia City, Madison County, M.T.” certifying that the last will and testament of Livinus Daems “has been published in said paper for four consecutive weeks,” December 1874 to January 1875. It contains a seal of the probate court of the Territory of Montana and the signature of N.D. Johnson, probate judge. A small clipping is attached revealing Johnson’s “Notice in the matter of the estate of Livinus Daems, deceased” giving the final date of January 9, 1875 “where all persons interested are hereby notified to appear and contest, or file any objections, if any they have, why said will should not be admitted to Probate.”
The Madisonian is the oldest weekly newspaper in Montana, published continuously since 1873.
