Raymond Pagès: unclassifiable artist, graphic designer, poet, painter, juggler of words and matter, sometimes with a biting humor.
He was born on April 5, 1923. Very young he was passionate about painting and jazz, he met Boris Vian with whom he had a friendly relationship. He paints, he also writes. Poet, he becomes a genius “jack of all trades”, greedy for all that is music, colors, rhythm.
A creative production, in constant renewal of form, subject, questioning, moving from very serious subjects (the points of meditation, the "arbreuses", abstract calligraphy ...) to others filled with humor (" the manifesto of painting by the linear meter ”,“ the little night painting ”,“ The masters in thinking ”…).
In 1971, notoriety arrives with the creation of the series of 16 posters of AIR FRANCE which follows that of the painter Georges MATHIEU in 1968. He will maintain with the latter a continuous relationship and mutual respect, although their artistic approaches are diametrically opposed. Sixteen "works of art" that will revolutionize the world of graphic art and posters through their originality.
Presented at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris during the official opening of their release, these posters will be exhibited around the world for several years.
Raymond PAGES offers us a poetic vision of the countries "flown over" and uses astonishing innovative techniques such as the all-white Italy poster, the only example of a poster that lives only by its relief without any impression.
His work will be crowned with numerous prizes ("Golden Siren" translated by this aphorism: "I have little painted me the Short" ...
Raymond PAGES passed away on March 28, 2014 at the age of 91.
