This vintage booklet was published by the Department of Environment in 1978, as part of a series: covering ancient monuments and historic buildings. It is a third edition of a title originally published in 1966 it was compiled by Graham, Webster and Philip Barker, and it comprises 28 pages plus two attached fold out maps - see photos. It is illustrated with black and white photographs.

The text looks at the area approximately five miles south-east of Shrewsbury off the B4394 near Norton, Shropshire, where lie the ruins of a former Roman city – Wroxeter, Viroconium. Thousands of years ago, it was one of the largest cities in Roman Britain, and the location for municipal baths.

Excavations have revealed Roman walls, a large townhouse and other ruins at the site.

This booklet was produced as an official handbook for visitors to the site and details, its history and modern day findings.

The booklet shows some signs of its age and previous handling, including a blemish on the back cover where we think a label was once stuck. But it remains fully legible throughout with clean pages and the central staples intact. It measures approx 8.5x5.5 inches in size.
