Being offered on this auction is
beautiful vase made by Lorenz Hutschenreuther, Selb, Bavaria. It is
of famous now German Op-Art line. This vase is from ‘Diadem’ series. It has
round long cone shape. Vase has a bright red background with gold rim on the
top. It is decorated with very attractive decor of Chinese pagoda, Indian
Tree, and oriental flowers all in gold. It is fully glazed. Looks splendid. Hutschenreuther was well known as one of the greatest porcelain figurine
makers for about 200 years. Its most famous Lion mark is a symbol of high
quality and artistic design. Hutschenreuther’s art department was
established in 1917. Nowadays, the Lion mark is under umbrella of Rosenthal
Group. This vase is marked on the backside with standard production logo of
Art Department used in 1939 - 1964. Another marking on the backside is
'Handgemalt' (handpainted) and decor number 8381 in gold.
Hans Achtziger (1918 – 2003) designed this vase in the series of porcelain
objects on his workshop on modern ceramics in Selb. He is one of the
leading names in German porcelain making industry. He worked for
Hutschenreuther since 1946. Achtziger designed many beautiful
Hutschenreuther’s coffee and china sets as well as worked as an artist. He
was director of Hutschenreuther’s Art Department since 1972. He retired
formally in 1981 keeping adviser function. During Op-Art era Achtziger ran
a porcelain workshop on modern design. Many his vases including vase on
this auction came from this effort. ‘Diadem’ is one of his very successful
lines. It was influenced by German Bauhaus vases. He actually made full
china service in this shape and several other vases.
Vase measures about 2 ¾” in diameter
and stands 10 ¾” tall. Condition is immaculate with no cracks or chips
found. Colors are bright and vibrant. Gold has no wear. Please take a look at he pictures to
