SUPER MINSTRELS

1920'S ORIG.

LINEN LINED POSTER,

 W/BERT SWOR

There is a lot of history that goes along with this poster, but I'll only give you a brief look at it's history.

A.G. fields was considered the best there was in Minstrel Shows during the turn of the century, and he considered Bert Swor as his equal.

Upon Mr. fields death he passed the legacy of Minstrel on to Neil O'Brien and he instantly contracted with Bert Swor, the man everybody considered the best there was in "black face" minstel.

One of the best-known minstrel impresarios was Al G. Field (whose real name was Alfred Griffith Hatfield, 1850-1921) of Columbus, Ohio. He founded the Al. G. Field Greater Minstrels in 1886, presenting an annual tour that would kick off at the State Fair in Columbus, and then fan out to the Midwest, East and South. Vaudeville and burlesque would ultimately bring an end to what was America's first indigenous forms of mass entertainment, but Field would be remembered as a consummate showman, capable of putting together a show of spectacular proportions. "The New York Herald had written of Field's death as the death of minstrelsy itself. In a piece headlined 'Black Face Minstrelsy Passes,' the newspaper said: Whether Field's minstrels . . . will continue is definitely not stated. . . Black face minstrelsy did its full share to make the world forget its cares and troubles. By its passing vaudeville was the greatest gainer, but there are still old timers who with a questionable allegiance to movies and modern plays doubt if the theatergoer benefited greatly by the change. And one of the performers Field called upon to generate that sort of allegiance was Bert Swor, one of the genre's premiere comedic singers at the time, an amazing contrast to the businessman-like persona Swor put forth in his partnership with Neil O'Brien. You are viewing that persona!

I will wrap this POSTER extremely well, as I always do, and I will send it to you securely wrapped in a NEW reinforced mailing tube for safe delivery to you. Of course I have to ship everything INSURED, so check it out for any damage when you pick it up. I might ad that the person or company that linen lined this poster did as professional job as I have seen on any poster!

PLEASE do not pay to the automatic eBay invoice or we will have to do the purchase all over again. Their generic invoice does not give a true cost of shipping. There are handling costs involved with the tube, total weight, insurance, destination, and method of shipment. Especially with all the changes at the Post Office! Even eBay now takes a cut from the shipping cost, increasing the costs even further for every seller and buyer on eBay.

REMEMBER, I do combine shipping, but you can't pay for one, and then make another offer on another item.  Buy first, and then pay when you have chosen all you want. Got it? Any questions send me an email.

Thanks for stopping by,
