This is an attractive modern Japanese Kutani tea pot, made in aka-e kinrande (red painted gold brocade) style. It is a side-handled teapot (yokode no kyusu), made for brewing Japanese loose leaf green tea (sencha). It has traditional bird and flower (kacho-e) decoration in iron red and raised white enamels, heightened with gold highlights. The motif is a peacock and flowers (peonies, I think). It is about 9.2 cm tall and 9.6 cm in diameter across the body.

I believe it is all hand-painted, rather than printed decals. It is decorated in a typical modern Japanese way, which is in fact a contemporary approach to kacho-e in red and gold. The porcelain paste is ivory in colour and the glaze is glassy, bluish-grey in colour and deliberately crackled. Condition is excellent. There are no chips, cracks or scratches and the gilding is complete. It appears to be unused. The decorator's mark, hand painted in iron red on the base of the spout of the teapot, is hard to read (especially the top left character). My best guess is 九谷峰仙 (Kutani Hōsen).
