The DEF pump keeps the SCR system dosing correctly, and a weak or wrong pump puts the truck into reduced power and derate. A Genuine GM pump module matches the factory tank, sensor and connector, so it installs and communicates with the engine computer without codes. Aftermarket DEF pumps are known for early failures and heater problems. On a Duramax, the GM part is the safe bet.
