BRITAINS
NO 9683 - JAP DRAG RACE MOTORCYCLE - CORGI 681 STUNT BIKE.
On offer is a Britains JAP Drag Racing Machine - Possibly Corgi 681 Stunt Bike.
MPN: 9683/681
Made in England and launched in 1970 this Britains 1:32 Scale Drag Racing Machine is a collectible die-cast model.
It’s part of the Britains Series, known for its detailed and high-quality miniature vehicles. This
particular model depicts the 1000cc V Twin JAP Drag Bike built by Alf Hagon which was the first bike to clock less than 10 seconds for a standing quarter of a mile at the Santa Pod racetrack.
Finished in gold the inscriptions on the rear tyre read ENGLAND AVON Slick and on the other side BRITAINS. The bike is in excellent condition with very little wear.
We do not believe that this is the original rider as he usually wears a blue race suit rather than brown and the clear plastic windshield (fairing) unfortunately is missing. The missing fairing is reflected in the asking price.
Collectors value this model not only for its craftsmanship but also for its nostalgic appeal. It represents a time when drag racing was becoming a mainstream sport.
POSSIBLE BONUS.
This could also be the Corgi 681 Stunt Motorcycle which is a shining gold motorcycle with delicate silver spoked wheels and smooth original tyres. It was made available for dealers to order for a few months in 1972.
It looks a lot like the Britains Drag Racer Bike (model 9683). It's similar, or rather, in addition to AVON Slick, there is a Britains Ltd logo on the tyre, so how much of it was actually made by Corgi???
The bike would be mounted on a plastic base, weighted to keep it stable and fitted with four Whizzwheels for use on tracks sold at the time. This was not the most successful of Corgi's ideas as the reputation of the product was not good and they only made 19,000 making them even rarer.
Either way, a terrific addition to your collection.
