Richard Batterham (1936-2021) stoneware lidded twin handled casserole / tureen with Green ash Glaze #1927

Though unsigned as virtually all Richard Batterham’s work was. This is recognisable as being by Richard Batterham by its shape, glaze and colour.

The painted number of 27 on the base is also something which Richard did for reference.

Richard is viewed collectively by studio pottery collectors and studio potters themselves as an iconic master potter who trained at the Leach pottery before starting out on his own.

Potting for 6 decades his work is always sought after.

The piece does have a small chip to its lid (as photographed). I have taken cognisance of the chip, which is minor damage and is the only damage I can see.

Richard Batterham’s work is becoming increasingly more valuable at auction.
