• This is a rare gold coloured metal badge from the 1962 East German May Day celebrations. Featuring a red flag and the text 1 MAI 1962.
• The badge has a safety clasp style fastener and is 3cm high.
• May day parades have always been based around the welcoming of springtime after the long, cold winter. Typically youth groups and fraternal organisations would parade down the streets along a specified route. Trade unions and the military would also march the route bearing banners and flags creating quite a spectacle.
