This forest green knit dress from Cuban-American designer Adolfo is a shift with straight sides, short sleeves and a crew neck. The yoke, sleeves, and hemline are wide ribbed stockinette knit adorned with little crocheted florettes. This dress likely dates to the late1980s. The fabric tag states 70% wool and 30% rayon. There is no size label, but sizing charts indicate it is closest to a modern size 6/8, or Medium. This dress is stretchy.
ABOUT ADOLFO: Adolfo, nee Adolfo Sardiña (1933-2021), first apprenticed with Cristobal Balenciaga as a milliner. He moved to New York in 1948 and opened his own millinery house with a loan from Bill Blass. Soon after, Adolfo began to design clothing, and by the mid-1960s, his celebrity clients ranged from royalty to First Ladies (Nancy Regan wore Adolfo's unforgettable red dress to her husband’s second inaugural ball). Adolfo had apprenticed with Chanel in the early 1960s, and by the 1980s he was best known for his Chanel-inspired cardigan suits.
