วัดศีรษะทอง ตั้งอยู่ที่ ตำบลศีรษะทอง อำเภอนครชัยศรี จังหวัดนครปฐม เกิดจากการร่วมแรงร่วมใจของชาวบ้าน ซึ่งเป็นชาวลาวอพยพมาจากเวียงจันทน์ ในสมัยรัตนโกสินทร์ตอนต้น ราวปี พ.ศ.2358 ขณะขุดดินเพื่อจะทำการสร้างวัด ชาวบ้านได้พบเศียรพระพุทธรูปสีทองเหลืองอร่ามจมอยู่ในดิน จึงได้นำมาตั้งเป็นชื่อวัดว่า วัดหัวทอง นับแต่นั้น และต่อมาได้เปลี่ยนคำว่า หัว มาเป็นศีรษะ ชื่อวัดจึงเรียกกันว่า วัดศีรษะทอง เรื่อยมาจนถึงทุกวันนี้ เจ้าอาวาสองค์แรกของวัดศีรษะทอง(วัดหัวทอง) คือ หลวงพ่อไต เป็นชาวลาวมาจากเวียงจันทน์โดยกำเนิด หลังจากนั้นได้มีการสืบทอดเจ้าอาวาสต่อมาอีกหลายรูป กระทั่งมาถึงยุคของหลวงพ่อน้อย และหลวงพ่อมานิตย์ ตามลำดับ
