She studied piano and later singing in Bucharest and Milan, where she attended the Giuseppe Verdi Conservatory under Vanerë Filippi and Bodrilla. She made her debut as Lucia in Lucia di Lammermoor at Koper in 1908. After touring extensively across Western Europe, she returned to Bucharest to perform in operetta from 1910 to 1913. Her growing international reputation led to performances at major opera houses throughout Europe, including notable appearances in Barcelona and at the Teatro Colón in Buenos Aires.

She made her La Scala debut as Santuzza in Cavalleria Rusticana and performed there from 1928 to 1932. At La Scala, she sang Salome under the direction of Richard Strauss, appeared as Mariola in the premiere of Ildebrando Pizzetti's Fra Gherardo (1928), and portrayed Carmen and Charlotte in Werther. By the time of her retirement, she had mastered a repertoire of over 90 roles, spanning mezzo, dramatic, lyric, and coloratura parts in both opera and operetta.

In Bucharest, her performances as Cio-Cio-San, Minnie in La Fanciulla del West, Kundry, and Adriana Lecouvreur were particularly acclaimed. Her vocal and dramatic range was exceptional, supported by a richly colored timbre and a deep commitment to each role she performed. After her death, her memoirs, Amintiri din cariera mea lirica, were published in Bucharest in 1964.
