Original large-format 1940 map of the area between Lake Hopatcong and
New
Brunswick, published by the State of New Jersey Department of
Conservation and
Development.
- It is drawn on a scale of
one mile to an inch and measures a very generous 37" x 27".
- The coverage area is bounded by longitude 74°20'
W to
74°46' W
and latitude
40°28' N to 40°56' N.
- It is highly detailed, with hundreds of named places and
features, including
the Morris Canal, Waterloo, Convent Station, Somerville, Watchung
Mountains, Summit,
Flagtown, Central Railroad of New Jersey, Gladstone, Passaic River, Nickerson Mine, Mendham, Jockey Hollow Park,
Chatham,
Coontown, Milliington, the Delaware & Raritan Canal, Liberty
Corner, Rockaway River,
Morristown & Erie Railroad, Bernardsville, Baileys Mills,
Madison, Spicertown,
Wharton & Northern Railroad, Highland Park, Budd Lake, the
great Swamp, Welch Mine, Flanders, Boonton, Basking Ridge, and the Lawrence Line, created by surveyor John Lawrence in 1743 to
define the
boundary between the two proprietary colonies of West Jersey and East
Jersey.
- Condition: The map is in very good condition,
bright and clean, with a few tiny nicks along the right edge, well outside
of the image area, and no
marks or writing. The map is blank on the back, with no
printing on the reverse side. Please see
