Outstanding portrait of a young boy by listed Rockport and New Jersey artist Martha Moore (1913-1982). The following biography is from Askart:

Martha Moore was born in Bayonne, New Jersey in 1913. She studied at the Art Students League in New York with Frederick Bridgman and Frank DuMond. Her outstanding work at the League earned her five scholarships.

The artist exhibited extensively and her paintings were awarded many prizes. She received the prestigious "Issac Maynard Portrait Prize" from the National Academy of Design. She also exhibited at the Art League of Long Island, the Lorillard Wolfe Art Club, with the American Artists Professional League and the Allied Artists of America.

She exhibited with the American Water Color Society, Audubon Artists, with the Society of Independent Artists in 1944 and in many museum shows.

Moore spent summers in Rockport, Massachusetts joining the Rockport Art Association in 1960. She participated in their annual exhibitions and received many awards for her paintings. She has also exhibited internationally with her works being shown in England, the Scandinavian countries, South America, Mexico, France, Canada and Israel.

She has written two books Prize Winning Paintings and Prize Winning Art published by Allied Publications Inc.


This oil on canvasboard is signed lower right, measures 8" x 6" and is in good condition with minor surface soiling. Framed as shown.
