1982 BANGKOK RATTANAKOSIN BICENTENNIAL MEDAL NO: 049763 WITH BOX & PAPERS.
On offer is a rare Vintage 1982 Bangkok Rattanakosin Bicentennial Medal No: 049763 with Box and Papers.
It is getting harder to find this bicentennial medal made to commemorate the foundation of Bangkok 200 years ago in 1782 and also, to celebrate the present ruling Chakri Dynasty.
This special edition Rattanakosin medallion is limited, each one specially numbered (this one being No: 059390) and hand cast in pewter. Pewter was chosen for this medallion because it has a unique beauty of its own, ideal for this momentous occasion.
On the front, the medallion has been specially designed to evoke the spirit and history of Krung Rattanakosin, the Divine Capital City and Jewel Abode of the God Indra. It shows two celestial angels officially representing the Bicentennial, together with the date and occasion in English script. The reverse symbolizes the pomp, splendour and pageantry of this Royal City. The area at the bottom is intended for names of specific centennial events or persons to be engraved there and also the serial number of the medallion.
The medallion is in excellent condition with no scratches or marks, the warranty/paperwork (with the number 059390, same as the medal) is still in very good condition but the cover for the blue display box is cracked in three places and a small piece is missing from one of the corner edges (see pics 17 & 18).
Thailand is the world's second largest producer of tin and traditionally, fine pewter is an alloy of 95% of this valuable metal mixed with antimony and copper. Thai craftsmanship in the hand casting of fine pewter is now world renown.
