From Ben Gurion speech at the ceremony from the opening the road: "In the road we are dedicating today is embodied the culmination of the effort of our war for homeland and independence, because in it is connected the most tragic and glorious campaign of heroism since we were forced to stand at the gate in front of our numerous enemies - the campaign for Jerusalem. This campaign is the focal point of the war of liberation for Israel, which has been abandoned for more than a year in the whole country. This campaign was conducted and is conducted not only in our world city and its immediate surroundings, but mainly on the road to Jerusalem. On it, on the fate of this road, the fate of the capital of the country depends... The war of liberation broke out and our enemies in Israel and in the neighboring countries rose up against us to our brides - the danger of death of Jerusalem was revealed, and of all the heavy blows that fell on our settlements during the war, Jerusalem only took nine cabins. The enemy knew that the most humane and also the lightest blow he could inflict on the head of Israel was the subjugation of Jewish Jerusalem and its destruction... This road is a witness to the heroism of the war and the Hebrew work - which won and will win.."
