ABOUT SOAP BERRIES/ SOAP NUTS Soap berries ( Soap nuts) also called Sapindus, are the fruit of several shrubs or small trees in the Sapindus genus. Soap berries contain saponins, or soap-like compounds, and are most commonly used as laundry or dishwashing detergent! LAUNDRY DIRECTIONS • Put 4-8 soap berries/nuts in the provided cotton bag, tie and toss the bag directly into the washer. • You do not need to take soap berries/nuts out for the rinse cycle • Dry after use, and it is OK if put soap berries/nuts in the dryer. • Re-use up to 5-6 times or until suds cease. • Note for cold water: Warm water activates the berries/nuts. Soak soap berries/nuts in hot water for a few minutes. Then pour water and the bag into the laundry. • Liquid: Make your own liquid laundry soap and add 1 tablespoon per load.
MAKING LIQUID AT HOME Liquid: Put soap berries/nuts into a cotton bag, then place in water ( The ratio of berries and water is bout 1: 2.5, about 10 soap berries with 3 cups of water). Bring to a boil and simmer for about 30 minutes. Cool down and store in an airtight container. Refrigerate to extend shelf life. The liquid can be used as an All-Purpose Cleaner.
