Paul Gilles
A wonderful pair of 1930-1935 French art deco wall sconces. The bronze or solid brass mounts hold beautiful panels in clear frosted molded-pressed glass signed Gilles. Paul Joseph Gilles (born in 1876) was a Paris based designer and producer of high-class luxurious art deco lighting during the interbellum with a large shop in the center of Paris (at 27 rue Esquirol). Gilles often used Degué shades for his fixtures. Some models especially produced for Gilles bear his own signature.
The sconces are 26 cm high (10,24") 24,5 cm wide (9,65") and 10,2 cm (4,02") deep. They are in excellent condition. I have re-nickeled and patinated the mounts. The fixtures come rewired. For the USA Canada or Japan I placed American candelabra base sockets. For European countries I will wire them with E14 ones. The sconces are represented in the 1930 Paul Gilles catalog (which is no part of this sale).
