1987 Kentucky Derby Rare Full Set of Four (4) Shot Glasses
This is a complete set of 4 souvenir shot glasses from the Kentucky Derby horse race held on May 2, 1987 at Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky.
1987 is the first year that a official shot glass set was produced for the Kentucky Derby. There were four different types produced. Here you get all four: a 3 ounce jigger with red/gold lettering, a 3 ounce jigger with black/gold lettering, a 1.5 ounce jigger with red/black/yellow lettering, and a 1.5 ounce frosted jigger with red/black/yellow lettering. The two 3 ounce shots are 2 1/2 " high and have a top diameter of 2." The two smaller shots are 2 1/4" high and 1 7/8" across at the top. All are in very good condition!
These shot glasses are arguably the most sought after, and have commanded high prices in auctions. The latest Blood Horse price guide book that I have is the 2004-2005 edition. Though certainly out of date, that guide listed these market values for the four shot glasses:
1. 3 oz red and gold shot $1,750
2. 3 oz black and gold shot $460
3. 1.5 oz clear red, black and yellow shot $240
4. 1.5 oz frosted red, black and yellow shot $270.
You can purchase them for much less than these prices, and collect all four in one bid. I prefer to sell all four in one package. Over time, however, if the shot glasses do not sell, I will make them available individually.
Alysheba was the winner of the 1987 Kentucky Derby.
Shipping will be via USPS Priority Mail and includes insurance for the full purchase price.
