Gillen & SEVB
A wonderful French art deco pendant light in nickel plated solid brass or bronze and clear frosted molded-pressed glass. Made around 1930. The thick heavy bowl is signed SEVB. The mounting was made by Nicolas Gillen a producer of high-quality lighting in art deco style during the interbellum. With a workshop and store in Paris (9 rue Saint-Ambroise). The chandelier is in excellent condition. It has a height of 46 cm (18,1") the shade has a diameter of 35 cm (13-25/32"). I have re-nickeled and patinated the mounting. The fixture is rewired and comes with a US standard socket. For European countries I will place a E27 one.
The price is for one pendant light. I have two of them available.
Both bowls are signed SEVB and bear the model number 256. They are also marked M.D.2 France. It is unknow where the MD refers to. SEVB is short for "Société d'Exploitation des Verreries de Bagneaux". A glass factory from the 20s in the village of Bagneaux a little south of Paris. Mid 30s, after Leopold Appert died in 1931, Sevb merged with Appert frères and became the Société d'exploitation des verreries de Bagneaux et Appert frères réunies , that's why also the signature SEVBA can be found on several models of bowls and lampshades.
