Description

This is a stunning and rare antique Heart motif French Belle Epoque Rose Cut Diamond and Ruby 18 Karat Gold Pendant Necklace.   

The gorgeous heart shape pendant has all the elements of the French Napoleon III jewels that we love, the exquisite craftsmanship, spectacular design, ornate elegance and beautiful gems.  This pendant is one of my favorites.  The open work pendant has a flower, leaf and scroll motif in a heart shaped design.  The top of the heart is a flower bouquet with rose, daisy and poppy flowers.  The flower form continues with buds and leaves forming the sides and bottom of the heart.  The jewel is 18 Karat Yellow Gold.   

Throughout runs a ribbon bow of White Gold which is set with Rubies and Diamonds.  The three round faceted Rubies are a very fine vivid red and are set in cut down collets.  The diamonds are Rose Cut Diamonds. 

The jewel has wonderful craftsmanship and the gorgeous color of the French 18 Karat Gold.  The heart motif is a romantic elegant expression of love and devotion.  The pendant dates to the Victorian - Belle Epoque period, circa 1850-1890.  

The pendant is 1 3/8 inches (37 mm) long including the bales.  
Without the bales the heart is 1 1/8 inches (28mm) by 1 1/8 inches.
The pendant weighs 7.7 grams.
The reverse has pin stem fittings (the pin has been removed) as well as loops from which a chain may be attached if desired.
