Antique Late 1800’s Kilim Rug 132” X 30” Handwoven Natural Dyes Navajo Look.
Bought at an auction under the impression it was an antique Navaho rug. Had it evaluated by a pro and was told it is not. It is called a Kilim and it dates to the late 1800’s. Said it comes from the region between the Caspian and Black Seas NW of Iran. All natural dyes and materials. Was also told the reason the 2 sides look different is it was previously a much wider rug and someone did a pretty great job of cutting it in half and resecuring the edge that was cut. See pics. This created a rug that would be a perfect runner for a long hallway. (I’m guessing that was why it was done, unless somewhere along the way 2 kids fought over it). This rug has some amazing colors! Deep and rich. Especially the blues….they are my favorite!
Needs a good cleaning as it has a good amount of “fuzz” or hairs or something. Cleaned the side I had facing up with a sticky roller so I could see what was damage and what was not.
Please note this rug is very detailed and old, I would not be able to spot small damage. Not even sure what to look for. It has definitely been used. I’ve taken pics of what the types of stuff I could spot. There is one small hole I found. Hard to spot and almost did not notice it. Actually found it while I was cleaning it and that was the first time I’ve noticed it. Also had many areas where maybe a “thread” is coming out? Like a little whitish fuzz that’s attached. I had assumed they would come off but they are attached. Also a couple of small stains I’ve noticed. There’s probably lots more but you can mostly only spot them in the beige areas. Please see pics as they are the best description. Measurements are approximate. Please ask any questions.
