This original, first edition, antique book constitutes an excellent biography of Civil War General William T. Sherman. The book presents a complete account from life from birth, his military service, and to his death. The book focuses predominately on Sherman’s military endeavors, including his service in the Indian Wars and the Civil War. Discussed are his various campaigns and battles. The book presents personal reminiscences as well as tributes from leading contemporaries of his era. Sherman was the only man to twice receive the Thanks of Congress during the Civil War, first for Chattanooga and second for Atlanta and Savannah. His “March to the Sea” is credited with breaking the back of the Confederacy. After the war, Sherman remained in the service and was promoted to full general, replacing Grant as commander-in-chief.
The book includes a battle maps and illustrations.

This original, first edition book is in excellent condition. Handsomely bound in tan-colored covers, with decorative covers and spine, the book is clean and has solid binding throughout. The exterior has no bumping or discernible edge wear, but has light rubbing. The gold lettering has faded. The interior is clean and the pages are in excellent condition. The book has two antique inscriptions, one dated 1891. The book has no smudging, foxing, stamps or pasteboards. It is not an ex-library book. The book has solid binding throughout; it has no looseness or lean and both hinges are fine. The book contains a frontispiece illustration of General Sherman with fine condition tissue guard.
