******Note: Does not come with ants ******
Start your newly captured queen off right in this starting nest.
The easiest way to start your colony is in a test tube. To make your experience easier and more enjoyable we created these nifty feeding troughs. Just swap them out as you change out the food.
Chamber Divider Features:
Having an undisturbed chamber is also important for your ants to stay calm as your replace food. Our easily removable chamber divider works perfectly to separate the feeding area from the founding chamber. Our newly improved design conforms to fit the wide tolerances in test tube diameters.
Sliding Cover Features:
Another improvement to the standard test tube setup is giving your queen some darkness. Our newly developed Sliding Cover will entice your queen to take up residence near the cotton ball. It is design to easily slide back so you can quickly check on her and it is easily removable.
Venting Plug Features:
This venting plug with provide just enough fresh air to your nest with out letting them escape. These plug can either go into a 1/2" nest entrance or cap the end of 3/8 or 1/2" OD tubing. See this listing for more details.
Feeding Trough Features:
These feeding troughs are design to easily remove and replace food with out getting the test tube dirty (unless the ants move it off) It provided a way to cleanly place insects or sugary foods into your test tube and remove it when they have finished. New Spring Clip design now makes it even easier to switch out the feeding troughs. The expanding clip will adjust the to the varying test tube dimensions. The new chamber divider also has built in spring mechanism to hold it right where you want it. Also has a 1/2 opening on one end to attach 1/2 OD tubing.
Instructions:
Just fill the test tube a quarter the way with water and insert the cotton ball down enough to remove air the water side. Air expands and contracts with heat which could push water past the cotton ball. Dab up any remaining water drops in the new founding chamber. Install chamber divider with pull tab facing outward and use the feeding trough to push into final position. Needle nose pliers may work better as a twisting motion will help install the divider. Add your captured queen ant and carefully plug the the end with the venting plug.
You can change the placement of the chamber divider as needed.
The Sliding Cover will shade half of the test tube (cotton ball side) which will encourage her to hide there. Otherwise she may want to hide in the feeding trough.
