Fritz let his "roast" cook for about two hours; and it was not without astonishment that, after having taken off the triple layers of earth, cinders, and stones, the most delicious odour saluted our olfactories.

Here we offer a very scarce illustrated edition of the classic adventure story, The Swiss Family Robinson, or Adventures of a Father and Mother and Four Sons in a Desert Island, by Johann Wyss (though this edition is uncredited) and published by Baldwin and Cradock, London, in 1834. It is a stated 9th edition, which is the way print runs (of about a thousand copies each) were referred to in England at the time. The book features 12 new woodcuts and a map of the island.

Book has been rebound with new brown spine cloth and acid-free endpapers and hinges, and an added red placeholding ribbon.   lightly worn boards. Light fingerprints and foxing throughout.  Very tight and square binding; very bright and crisp text and illustrations. 428 pages, plus several pages of notes and ads; measures approximately 7.25 x 4.5-inches.

This wonderful early classic adventure story will make a wonderful addition to your collection or a very thoughtful gift.
