Brownfield & Sons Ironstone Platter.


This antique ironstone brown transferware platter in the Harvard pattern was produced by Staffordshire maker Brownfield & Sons. This piece is circa 1880 (Brownfield ended production around 1890). It is in an oval shape, and the decoration features as central floral motif with a repeated floral motif around the outer rim. It measures 14 1/2" by 10".

The base is marked with the 'Harvard' pattern name, and has a clear Brownfield & Sons mark above the pattern name.

There is also an impressed maker's mark and an English registration mark .

Condition is good for its age. There are no chips or cracks. This platter is toned on the top and base surfaces, however there is surface crazing and 2-3 areas where small glaze pops have worn. Considering the plates age this platter is in good condition.
