Continental wraps the casing with SafetySystem breaker material, which uses Kevlar-reinforced nylon fabric to stop cuts and penetration from road debris without adding noticeable weight or raising rolling resistance. This construction lets you race the Sprinter at criteriums and time trials while also training on them during the week when your expensive competition tubulars stay mounted on race wheels in the garage.
The 3-ply casing runs 180 TPI total, which provides the supple ride feel that makes tubulars handle differently than clinchers while maintaining enough structural integrity for pressures up to 170 psi. Continental uses their BlackChili compound across the slick tread profile, which combines synthetic and natural rubbers with nanometric carbon soot particles. That compound formulation delivers grip through tight criterium corners where you're leaning hard on the sidewalls, and the slick profile maintains uninterrupted contact with pavement rather than breaking up the contact patch with tread voids.
The 700x25mm width provides the narrow profile that criterium racers prefer for quick directional changes and sprint accelerations out of corners. The tire runs at recommended pressures around 110 psi with a maximum of 170 psi, which gives you the range to dial in contact patch size based on rim width and road surface texture. The 42mm Presta valve includes a removable core for sealant injection if you want extra flat insurance, though the SafetySystem breaker already provides substantial protection for race conditions
