English description:
A rare, complete and very decorative series of optical views ("peepshow" / "vue d'optique") that represent the seven celestial bodies which were known in the 18th century. The series consists of seven allegories of the Sun, the Moon, Mars, Mercury, Jupiter, Venus and Saturn. All of them are shown as ancient gods, accompagnied by the corresponding zodiac signs. All copper engravings bear a title in four languages in show their strong original colours. They were published by Georg Balthasar Probst in 1760 in Augsburg, Bavaria. All of them measure 28 x 41 cm (plate size). They are in good condition with only some areas with light unobtrusive browning and a few unobtrusive crinkles (These flaws are mostly invisible when framed under a passepartout). Scarce, especially as a complete series.
