Description of veneer decks
Deck is trimmed to the veneer to match the historical facts. Because I don’t have original plans of the USS Kearsage construction, I used plans of very similar ship, its enemy, CSS Alabama from the book of the same name by Andrew Bowcock. I needed to make a small correction to compensate the different placement of some deck elements like manholes etc. on both boats. This way the placement of the nails on the deck so called” treeline”, correspond exactly to the placement of the deck beams, on which they were nailed – you can see also on the attached picture. Design of the deck contains also details like peripheral boards so called “waterway”, proper laying of each individual board and their termination into waterway especially on the stern by so called “hooking”. Natural and real looking relief is made by laser burning of the deck. Veneer deck fits exactly on the plastic deck of this model. All holes are cut out in the deck, as on the plastic base.

Kit also contains metal etchings which imitate “rails” - metal strips by which the deck was covered and was used to move heavy cannons. Etchings should be painted by metal color and glued on the dashed line marked spots on the deck.

You can find recommended description of use on my pages/Workflow.
