Being offered on this auction is
porcelain oval tray or butter pat made by Rosenthal China,
Selb, Bavaria,
in Butterfly décor. It is of Art Deco design.
It is of white background decorated with exclusive multicolored painting of
butterfly and flowers. Tray is trimmed with gold. Details of painting are
also in gold. Very famous German graphic designer and painter Kurt Wendler
(1893 – 1980) created this décor. Wendler worked for Rosenthal from 1920 to
1930. During that period he he created so-called ‘Indra’ décors as well as
other very impressive patterns, and also light fixtures and writing
utensils and vases. Tray is marked on the backside with standard green
stamp of Rosenthal’s Bahnhof factory in Selb. This mark identifies
production of 1927 – the Golden Age of Art Deco. Other marking is
‘Butterfly’ and ‘Hangemalt’ (hand painted) as well as number 25 written in
green on the backside.
Tray measures about 3” x 2”.
Condition is very good with no cracks or chips found. Colors are bright and
vibrant. Gold has very little wear. Please take a look at the pictures to
