The Texas Instruments TMS9928AN is a vintage 40-pin DIP video display processor (VDP) introduced in the early 1980s. It generates color graphics, control signals, and handles up to 16KB of dedicated dynamic RAM for 8-bit home computers and arcade systems. It differs from the related TMS9918A by outputting component-style luminance/color-difference signals instead of composite video. The 9928A video display processor (VOP) is a N-channel MOS LSI devices used in video systems where data display on a raster-scanned home color television set or color monitor is desired. These devices generate all necessary video, control, and synchronization signals and also control the storage, retrieval, and refresh of display data ln the dynamic screen refresh memory.
