The History of
... Panerai is the most famous Italian watch company.
But keep in mind, Panerai is now produced in
Switzerland, not Italy. Originally founded in Florence in the 1860’s,
this “watch workshop” was commissioned by the Italian
Navy to produce a watch that could be easily read
underwater. The early prototype was actually fitted with
Rolex parts.Giovanni Panerai and his family had no idea,
back in 1860, just how significant the Panerai watch
company would become a century and a half later. Panerai started
his business by producing measurement and precision systems for
the Italian Navy, which gradually lead to an affinity
for watchmaking and other precision instruments. The
company continued to develop in parallel with the
Italian Navy, and the commandos were equipped with
wristwatches produced by Panerai. In 1930, Panerai watches were
well known in the Italian military and the company had an
exclusive contract with the Navy to produce their
watches and aiming sites for various types of weaponry.
The ruggedness and durability of the Panerai watches is
still symbolic today, and the company only started producing
wristwatches for the general public in 1993...
The featured
watch describe is a Swiss made Panerai Radiomir 1936 Brevettato
PAM00262, polished finish, crafted Platinum oversized cushion-shaped
three-body case measuring 47mm x 47mm diameter. Fixed cupped Platinum
bezel, wire loop (patented) lugs with screws underneath. Manual winding
movement, power reserve up to ± 56 hours. Displays a
Brown ''California'' dial with combined Arabic numerals from 4 to 8
o'clock, and luminous Roman numerals from 10 to 2 o'clock, luminous
baton, triangle, pointed blue baton hands with luminous inserts,
railroad-style minute track at outer rim. Brevettato engraved
gem-shaped screw down winding crown. Dome shaped Plexiglas® crystal,
glazed display screw caseback, engraved "OFFICINE PANERAI –
BREVETTATO – PLATINUM 950," and a serial number... Panerai Brown Calfskin Ecru Stitching leather strap with large Platinum Panerai

and extremely rare, large, cushion-shaped, water-resistant, military
diver's wristwatch with so-called “Anonymous dial” and a Panerai
buckle.” … A remake of the original Radiomir ref. 3646, with the 'California dial'
was announced in 2006, The watch has generated a lot of interest,
obtaining one is difficult. This contemporary remake has the Unitas
cal.6497 movement, known as the OP X movement, as found in other
Panerai watch models. The main attraction in not the movement but the
dial. This style of dial is, a combination of Arabic and Roman
numerals, known colloquially as the “California Dial”. The term only
began to be used in the 1980’s, when a redial company based in
California refinished a number of Rolex Bubbleback dials in this
style. Note: The Arabic & Roman numerals mix predates that. The
original Panerai ref. 3646 dates to the 1930’s. The original 3646 was
also made by Rolex.” Hence “Rolex Paneria”. Panerai cleverly made the
luminous indices and hands of this 1936 with a color tinge, so this
modern 1936 resembles the battered and worn(and valuable) originals of
the thirties. This Limited Edition “Radiomir reproduces all the

identity and giving collectors the opportunity to appreciate a
