The roots of this ancient plant have been used as a dye substance right back to the days of the Pharaohs. The Druids are also said to have used it in girls coming of age ceremonies. Madder will produce a colour palette from corals through to brick reds. It can also be used in a combination with other dyes to create other palettes. It can be used to create an Indigo vat.
