This offer contains a precisely fitted laser-cut wooden deck with photo-etched brass gun-carriage rails for the Revell model of CSS Alabama in 1:96 scale. The deck is available in light beech veneer or dark oak veneer.

Historically Based Deck Layout

The engraved deck layout is based on the original ship plans published in Andrew Bowcock’s book CSS Alabama. The layout has been adapted to fit the Revell model while correcting differences between the plastic kit deck and the documented arrangement of the original vessel.

The wooden deck reproduces important details of period deck construction:

the perimeter waterway;
the historically based layout of the individual deck planks;
the hooked plank arrangement where the planks meet the waterway, particularly at the bow;
the gradual narrowing of the planks toward the stern;
engraved treenails arranged along the positions of the supporting deck beams.

The plank divisions, treenails and other surface details are precisely laser-engraved into the real wood veneer to create a natural relief and realistic appearance.

Fit and Installation

The 0.3 mm veneer deck is designed to fit precisely over the original plastic deck supplied with the Revell kit. All necessary openings are laser-cut to correspond with the openings and fittings in the plastic parts.

Photo-Etched Gun-Carriage Rails

The set includes photo-etched brass rails representing the metal tracks used by the wheels of the heavy gun carriages. These rails protected the wooden deck from damage and made it easier to move and position the heavy guns.

The arrangement of the rails is based on the original plans of CSS Alabama. Their correct positions are marked on the wooden deck with dashed guide lines.

A placement diagram for the individual photo-etched rails is supplied with the deck. The brass rails should be painted in a suitable metallic color and attached to the marked positions.
