This complete set of standard sails is designed for the Cutty Sark model kit in 1:96 scale by Revell. The set contains 27 accurately shaped cloth sails sewn on a CNC-controlled sewing machine.

The sail shapes, hems and reinforcements are based on historical plans of the ship, helping to give the finished model a more detailed and realistic appearance.

Material and Manufacture

The sails are made from fine 100% cotton batiste with a fabric weight of 125 g/m². The fabric has been prewashed to reduce the risk of later shrinkage.

Each sail is sewn on a CNC-controlled sewing machine. The shape, arrangement and reinforcement details are based on historical plans of Cutty Sark.

Historically Based Sail Details

  • The upper hem of each sail is wider than the hems along the sides and lower edge, following traditional sailmaking practice.
  • Additional reinforcement is provided at the sail corners and at the attachment points for the buntlines used when handling and furling the sails.
  • Reinforcing reef bands are sewn into the appropriate areas where the reefing points and reefing lines were fitted.
