Seagull Figurine

Being offered on this auction is gorgeous Seagull Figurine made by Rosenthal China, Selb, Bavaria, Germany. This is Rosenthal Figurine number 1541. It features expressive flying bird in blue and white tones. It is gliding with strong wind. It stands on pedestal. Gentle texture of porcelain beautifully represents bird’s feathers. Looks splendid. Acknowledged artist, ceramist and sculptor Fritz Heidenreich (1895 – 1966) designed this figure in 1934. He was a Rosenthal employee from 1919 to 1960, and from 1946 onwards the head of the art department in Selb. He always tried to find contemporary ways of expressing his sense of forms. The most famous of his works is vase called ‘Pregnant Luise’ (‘Orchideenvase’). All Rosenthal famous Op-Art was started after he introduced this vase. He is also well known for fish group ‘Scalare’, which was awarded with Grand Prize in Paris in 1937. Seagull is marked on the backside with standard ‘Rosenthal Germany’ mark in green identifying production of c. 1957. Other marking is ‘handgemalt’ (hand painted) and production artist initial. There is also model number 1541/1 incised at the edge of pedestal on the backside as well as ‘HEIDENREICH’ on the top of pedestal.

Figurine measures about 7” x 4” and stands 7” tall. Condition is immaculate with no cracks or chips found. Colors are bright and vibrant. It looks splendid. Please take a look at the pictures to find out more about this piece of the art.
