This is an official envelope of the Embassy of Malta,
signed by Ambassador Arvid Pardo.

 

Arvid Pardo (1914-1999) was a diplomat who was born in Rome,

whose mother was Swedish, and whose father was from Malta.

His parents died while Arvid was young, and he became the ward

of his uncle, Bernardo Attolico, an Italian diplomat who served as

Italy's ambassador to Brazil, the USSR, Germany, and the Vatican.

Arvid Pardo thus received an international education, and learned

to speak many languages fluently. Pardo held several diplomatic

postings before being selected in 1964 to be the first permanent

representative of Malta to the United Nations. Pardo gave a notable

speech to the UN in 1967, which led to a new "Law of the Sea"

treaty several years later. Pardo served as Malta's Ambassacor to

the United States from 1967 to 1971, and also served as Malta's

ambassador to the USSR.

The envelope has creases from being folded. Otherwise, it is
in very good condition, with some general wear.

It is accompanied by the original envelope it came in, which is

also is an official envelope of the Embassy of Malta, and which

was mailed in 1970.
