This is a letter
handwritten on both sides of a piece of stationery
of Marston & Crapo, a law firm in New Bedford, Massachusetts.

The letter, dated February 15, 1871, is
signed by George Marston.
Marston's name is printed at the top left corner.

George Marston (1821-1883) was born in Barnstable, Massachusetts.
He graduated from Harvard Law School, and was admitted to the bar
in 1845. He was later elected District Attorney. In 1869 he formed a
partnership with William Wallace Crapo (1830-1926). Crapo later served
several terms as a member of the U.S. House of Representatives.

In 1879, Marston was elected Attorney-General of Massachusetts.
He served for several years in this capacity.

Marston was also president of the Nantucket & Cape Cod Steamboat Company.

It is not clear who the letter is addressed to, but it appears to be someone
who was involved in the railroad business. The Boston & Providence Railroad
is one of the companies mentioned in the letter.

The letter is about 10" by 8". It is in good condition, with creases
where it was folded, some yellowing, and some other wear.

The ink on each side of the paper has bled through to the
other side, to a certain extent (see scans).
