Organic Buckwheat Flour

Ingredients: Organic Buckwheat Groats

Origin: Lithuania/China

Organic Buckwheat Flour is ground straight from the groat.

Organic Buckwheat flour has gained popularity because despite its name it is wheat free and does not naturally contain gluten.  Buckwheat flour is a fine powdery flour ground down from the groats.  Just one 25g serving is high in Fibre and a source of Magnesium and Manganese – as well as containing trace amounts of a whole host of vitamins and minerals.

These groats are actually seeds so buckwheat is a ‘psuedo-grain’ like quinoa and amaranth – a seed that we eat like a grain.  This versatile flour can be used in breads, cakes and pancakes for an alternative to traditional wheat based flours.  Buckwheat is nutrient rich and a great option for those looking for alternatives due to allergies or simply variety in their cooking.

Buckwheat is grown mainly in the Northern Hemisphere with Central and Eastern Europe being the best producers.  It is commonly found in Eastern European cuisine, with a porridge like dish called Kasha being one of Russians national dishes.  Kasha is served sweet or savoury as a side dish or main.

If you like experimenting with speciality flours try our organic tigernut flour, organic almond flour or organic buckwheat flour.
