RALPH GODDARD

This is a baggage ticket, signed by Ralph Bartlett Goddard (1861-1936),
a notable American sculptor.

The baggage ticket also has Goddard's address written on it (145 W. 55th).
Goddard lived in New York.

The signature and address are written in pencil.

The ticket is glued to a somewhat larger piece of paper, on which the words
"American sculptor" are written in what appears to be old handwriting.

On the other side of the ticket are the words "Mrs. Gilbert Colgate".

This item came with a collection of letters and ephemera that belonged
to the family of Samuel Colgate
(1822-1897), a prominent New York
businessman and philanthropist. His father was William Colgate (1783-1857),
the founder of what is now the Colgate-Palmolive Company.
Colgate University is named in the family's honor.

The third image shows a medallion of Gutenberg. One side of this medallion
shows an image of a statue of Gutenberg that was sculpted by Goddard
in the late 1890s (note Ralph Goddard's name on the base of the statue).
This was the first statue of Gutenberg created in the United States.

(The portrait of Gutenberg on the other side of this medallion was designed by Anton Scharff.)

The last three images show a few of Goddard's other works.
