Schmetz Universal needles feature a sharp, slightly rounded point (ball point), and make a great general purpose needle. These are designed to sew most general fabrics and materials including woven and knits, jersey and synthetics. These are one of the most popular needles in the range due to their great versatility.

Offered in single packs of 10 needles, with a choice of two mixes of needle sizes:

1) 70/10-100/16 contains 2x70, 3x80, 3x90 and 2x100.

2) 70/10-90/14 contains 4x70, 4x80 and 2x90

Needle sizes:

These needles have a shank (the top part of the needle that goes into the machine) which is 2mm in diameter and has a flat machined on it. They are the type designed to fit the vast majority of domestic sewing machines.

Needles come with European metric and American sizing numbers. The smaller the numbers, the finer the needle. Size 70/10 denotes a fine needle that is 0.7mm in diameter. Size 90/14 denotes a thicker needle that is 0.9mm in diameter. 

70/10 is considered a fine needle.

80/12 and 90/14 sizes are more in the medium range.

100/16 (and above) are considered a more heavy duty size.

Sometimes a little trial and error is needed to establish which needle works best on a particular fabric, machine setup and thread being used.
